Are you a movie buff but hesitate because each time you go to a theatre, you end up spending at least 10 bucks per ticket and more on refreshments? How many times in a month do you take your family to watch movies and how much do you spend then?

Well, here are a few ways which can help you save money.

1. Subscribe to the rewards program of the theatres you visit most. It costs nothing and gives you surprise gifts when you least expect them. For example, Regal Crown club card accumulates your reward points each time you buy movie tickets and brings your way free popcorn, drinks and even free movie tickets. You can get it at the box office window or even online. Even AMC theatres offer a MovieWatcher Rewards card.

2. Go to watch movies on days when they have the least crowd. Many entertainment groups offer discounted popcorn and candy vouchers on days like these. For example, Regal offers $2 candy and popcorn on Mondays & Tuesdays respectively. Some of them even give free popcorn…

3. If you have AAA Insurance, you can buy discounted tickets from their service centers. They offer these tickets for any Regal Cinemas, Edward Theatres or United Artists Theatres. Each unrestricted ticket costs $7.75 and each restricted ticket (not valid for the first 12 days of a new release) costs $6.75. These are the rates in Oregon & Idaho where a movie ticket regularly costs around $10. Hence, a discount of 32.5%. It is as good as getting your third movie ticket for free.

4. If you have a student id, show it at the box office. You are bound to get a discount.

5. If you are buying tickets online, lookup for coupon codes for that theatre. It will help you save service charges etc. which amount upto $1 per ticket.

6. Before you decide to watch a particular movie in a theatre, find its review on websites like RottenTomatoes.com and imdb.com. If you think it’s not worth your time and money, wait for it to come at Red Box. Then look up for free Red Box DVD codes online and rent it for free.
